In WW2 the British raised formations of individually qualified raiders to inflict secure and go on and in rank gathering raids on the coast of occupied Europe, the commandos. Tough uncaring with a sense of adventure that particularly led to one raider sending a telegraph to Hitler starting a captured station asking where his men were. These are the men depicted in this kit and they were practically probably the initially toy soldiers I always owned, in trade in the day as they were bought with shillings and half crowns. They have rifles, Tommy guns, knives, shells and bazooka's as water supply as scaling ladders and even 2 man canoes, the famous `cockelshells' of the Bordeaux raid.Looking at any of them brings in trade many, many fond memories of childhood. So why did I give them release 4 stars? They haven't changed one little bit since the 1960's. Casting techniques were less refined then than they are currently or even in the 70's as Airfix upgraded many of their soldiers' kits, save for this is one of the sets they left alone, still with the old castings which can seem a little crude next to modern soldiers. So if I'm honest for the new buyer, while for me these are much loved memories of childhood, friends starting long decades ago, you could find them not as water supply crafted as other sets out there. Save for then over again if you did have these being ago and have memories be fond of supply, pick of the litter them up, the old friends are there, just as you remember them.

I must have had about 5 of these sets as a boy (about 35 being ago). The Canoe is great, the ladders just fun. Hours of fun shooting the hun. I've now forced my 8 year old boy to have the set but I may steal it from him.
